Most houses are made from adobe. We were honored to spend the afternoon with the Supa family, plastering their walls and upgrading their environment. They just got electricity in their home for the first time in the past year. Peruvian Hearts is also helping them purchase some new beds and furniture. Really excited to participate.

Alexandra and Jessica are Peruvian Promise scholars. They studied late into the night at this table to qualify and be accepted to university. Peruvian Hearts takes care of their expenses and gives them a place to live in downtown Cusco as they complete their studies.

The walls of their kitchen are black from the wood burning stove they use for cooking. Incredibly humbling to see some of their living circumstances.

Chicken legs anyone?

Many of the cathedrals in Cusco were built using Incan stones from the fortresses and temples in the hills. Kind of sad, but Peruvians seem to embrace their dual heritage .

Not going to lie, been a little dizzy all day. The city sits at 11,000. You climb pretty quick to get some of the ruins.

While some might debate whether Utah rocks, this is a Utah rock.

About a fourth of the Cusco panorama you can see from atop the ruins.

Ruins at Sasquaywaman (if your pronunciation sounds close to “Sexy Woman, you’re close). Check out the size of that rock. It was put into place about 1000 years ago and weighs about 135 tons. #Peru

Little creepy.

Arriving here has been about a 10 year personal family history journey. This is the earliest Valentine we can tie our family history to. He is my great (x3) grandfather. I found his death certificate the summer of 2005. It was the spark for my interest in Family History. It was that death certificate that told us where he was buried.
