My Pioneer

I’ve only lived out here in the west for a few years, and so with each passing year, I come to appreciate a little bit more the celebration that is July 24.

I’d like to just take a quick moment and express gratitude for the pioneer in my life. I speak of my father’s decision to join the church.

My father grew up in a great home to loving parents who taught him how to work hard. He wouldn’t be introduced to the church until he was working as a Landscape Architect in Alabama. Even though he was older, graduated from college and living on his own, he chose to serve a mission (he was much older than the age limit for elders today). After returning home from Japan, he moved to the Walterboro, South Carolina, where he met my mother. They were sealed in the Washington D.C. Temple on Valentine’s Day, 25 years ago this year.

So many of the wonderful blessings I enjoy in my life can be directly attributed to the love and example of my parents. I hope that like the pioneers of old, I can honor my parents through the life I live.

Thank you Mom and Dad for being my pioneers.
With Love,
James.
